Cancano lakes in Gravel: you've never seen them with your racing bike!
Distance | 17.60 km |
Slope | max 11.00 % |
Difference in altitude | 135.00 m |
The Giro dei Laghi is a very simple tour, ideal for becoming familiar with both this type of bicycle and the road surface.
The tour is mainly flat and winds around the two artificial dams of Cancano and San Giacomo, fed by the waters of the Adda river which stems from Mount Ferro in the nearby Alpisella.
You will thoroughly enjoy riding your gravel
bike on the relaxing 4WD track terrain that will
leave you the time to fully enjoy the
high-altitude alpine views and the
colours of the lake waters.
The ride starts from the Torri di Fraele, an ancient fortress built in 1391 to defend the ancient Via Imperiale di Alemagna, the gateway for the transit of salt and wine in northern Europe.
The first stretch, along the recently paved lake delle Scale, soon gives way to the dirt road that you will ride along the entire tour of the lakes. The first slightly wavy part of the road is surrounded in the typical vegetation of these altitudes with the characteristic mountain pine and its typical scent.
After passing the San Giacomo dam, green meadows with mountain huts opens up. The constant changes of direction will test your riding technique and make you appreciate the grip of the specific bike covers.
Each season will greet you with fantastic views and bright colours. June with late flowering will give you bright green interrupted by the different colours of alpine flowers while September with the coming autumn will immerse you in an incredible variety of yellows and reds.
The minimum difference in height allows anyone, novice to gravel or not, to pedal in absolute relaxation without worries.
Fun guaranteed!
